day out to the gunpowder mills at waltham abbey today, never had so many photo's taken of me - ever!
(that yank clobber sure wins over the dames!)
picked up a sten sling '43 dated and no rust on the fittings- much cheapness
'45 dated us mess tins
and-a wink from a land girl!
glad I wasnt wearing serge today, I wore that yesterday which was a lot warmer

From my local car-boot this morning:

WW2 related:
Brit rubberised groundsheet - £2.00
SMLE sling (showing remnants of "sand-coloured" blanco) - £1.00
Mk3 'Turtle' helmet painted up for NHSR use. 'NHSR' sign written (you can still see the pencil guide lines!) on the front and back in black over a creamy white shell colour. Name painted on the inside - £5.00

There was a very moth-eaten 49patt BD blouse for £10 with two nice metal lapel badges (I think Ox+Bucks LI, but can't be sure), which I didn't buy (If I did it would have only been for the badges anyway).

Non-WW2 related:
Brand new No.2 Dress uniform jacket belt - £0.20p
70's nylon version of '58patt belt ('72patt or something?) - £0.20p
A laminated wood paddle for my and me sisters coracle! - £6.00

Was the helmet a MK3 or MK4?

Either way a bargain

It's got different strap rivet locations to my Mk5, and I know Mk5's are just Mk4's but with a green finish and 'sock' style liner, so I'm guessing it's a Mk3 alright. Will have to compare it to my Mk3 Police helmet when I get back to Hertfordshire.

Is the liner a "pull the dot" fitting with a stick inside or attached with a screw like a tommy helmet? The latter makes it a MkIII most likely.

british khaki collared shirt-£5!
british wool collarless shirt £5!
waxed scrim snipers coverall/cape - stinks real bad! if they can't see me they will definateley smell me!
'43 dated brit officers dispatch bag for £20 -(£25 cheaper than sof!)
all from my local market army surplus stall, (he did'nt have any brown leather gloves for yith I'm afraid)
the eagle has landed dvd- hmv
delivery of serge tunic from keith in hong kong-
complete waste of money!
the tunic is really thin and does not matchweave or colour the sof para trousers or 49 blouse I have, not that it matters, the sleeves are about 4 inches too short! :(
and the hook and loop fittings on the collar- two hooks, no loops!
not happy! :x

You keep mentioning this local treasure trove stall in south bucks, but are you willing to share which town it's in?

Its one of those weeks...

Unblancoed webbing: small pack, L-straps, belt, waterbottle crade, bren pouches.
Hose tops
red infantry garters (not sure if I need these...)

My 8th army impression is now almost complete

1943 dated ORs Service Dress Jacket. This fits me like a glove! It could have been tailored just for me! It is also totally mint condition, not a single bit of damage on it.

A bit of an oddity though... By 1943 SD had pretty much been out of use for 3 years. Also it seems to be an austerity pattern that is not something I have seen mentioned anywhere before.

But looking at it, I can convert this easily to WWI pattern! Just need to add a pleat in the top pockets and buttons on the lower ones.

You'll almost *never* wear the two together TBH.

Its so warm in a proper wool shirt and denison anyway my BD blouse stays for walking out.

The only time i've ever worn both at an event is the whittington barrack show in march when it was freezing and i was largely static.

So much so that i'm seriously considering unbadging my Staffords blouse to get more use out of it as a line infantry one.

In the last six years its only been used for walking out at railway shows and for taking PBIs drill session.
